Coláiste Íde

Boarding School for Girls

School Life

As a small school each girl knows every other girl in the school and it is well known and often said around the school that it is the girls who are Coláiste Ide and not the building or the estate. The students are very proud of their school and this is obvious in their behaviour and care of the school buildings but more importantly of each other.

When girls first attend our school each is given a mentor - one of the older students - who assists her to settle in with ease. At lunch and in dormitories the girls are mixed; each year mixes with each other year and in that way a wonderful support network between the girls themselves naturally develops. The environment at the school is a caring, conmfortable and safe environment.

Spot-checks are regularly carried out allowing to girls to be open regarding any bullying or incorrect behaviour that may occur within the school. When it comes to bullying we believe in a pro-active approach - we do not say that in a school with 126 no bullying occurs however with the systems we have in place we ensure that any incorrect behaviour is spotted and dealt with long before it becomes a problem; prevention rather than cure. The girls know that we care and that we will make every effort to provide each and every girl with a happy and safe environment.

The girls have a busy day with academic classes running from 9am until 4pm. Our sports program runs each day from 4pm - 5.30pm with a wonderful variety of sports available. Supervised study is provided each evening and it is at weekend that the creative program runs, the content of which is largely driven by the requirements and interests of the girls themselves. It is our aim to prepare girls for life, as well as for examinations.

The staff are wonderfully dedicated and genuinely interested in the girls attending the school. Each member of staff know the girls individually. This means that no-one slips through the cracks. academically or otherwise, as is commonly seen in large schools. A 24 hour student-support team is available to the girls, as well as a counsellor and nurse.

Mutual-respect is shown between girls and staff and traditional values, some long-forgotten in today's world, are taught at Coláiste Ide. It is a christian school in which good manners, discipline and respect for each other are highly valued and considered normal behaviour.

We want your daughter to leave Coláiste Ide with a sense of purpose and with the confidence to pursue her ambitions. So much of what we do here has that as its dual aim so that by exposing each girl to as many opportunities as possible, girls are able to grow in self esteem. When we put on a major drama production almost half the school takes part. Despite our caring ethos, girls are not over protected here – they are exposed to the challenges of life, but in an environment where they feel safe and secure.

Coláiste Íde students are happy, confident girls; well prepared and well qualified for the future.
