Coláiste Íde

Boarding School for Girls

Pastoral Care

At Coláiste Íde the welfare of the child is paramount and we do everything within our power to ensure that children have a safe and happy environment in which to grow, develop and be educated.

A counsellor is available to students at designated times and can be accessed in emergency. The counsellor meets with both groups and individuals throughout the year. The counsellor forms part of our student care team. Students are informed of this service at the beginning of the school year.

Evening Care-team

Members of the care-team work at the school each evening from 5pm until 9am and around the clock on weekends. They are local Irish-speakers trained in child-protection and first aid and have a vast amount of experience dealing with young girls in the boarding school. Good behaviour is the norm at Coláiste Íde and this allows a relaxed atmosphere between the girls and the staff in a very caring environment. The care-team take their position "in loco-parentis" very seriously and they know every girl in the house, which allows them to notice any potential issues arising. All staff are garda vetted and have full references. The head-supervisor, and her assistant have been with the school for many years and manage the team very efficiently, with great care and understanding to all students, whilst ensuring the high standard of manners, courtesy and behaviour is upheld.

Day-time care team

The school is run very efficiently by principal, deputy-principal and teaching staff and achieves very high academic results.

The boarding school is run by a manager, assistant manager and staff, many of whom are past-pupils.

Both teams work closely together with the one aim: to provide a full and rounded education to the girls of Coláiste Íde in a safe and happy environment.

Student support team

A Student support team is in place in Coláiste Íde and is made up of: nurse, counsellor, management and care staff. This team is in place to provide support for the students in our care and will meet at least once each term. A member of this team is always available, and the students will be informed of the names of team members each year.
