Below are some questions you may have regarding entry procedure at Coláiste Ide. If you have additional queries please contact the Registrar. Alternatively you may find the answer to your query by browsing other pages on our website.
What are the main entrance requirments?
Entry is generally on a first come-first-served basis.
Are there any scholarships or financial assistance offered by the school?
There are 6 scholarships for one year for first year students only. Three of these are for excellence in the Irish language and three for excellence in a cultural activity; singing, dancing or playing an instrument. A remote area grant which covers the boarding school fee may be available for children who are unable to get an all-irish education in their local area. Please ask the school for details.
Will my daughter have to sit an entrance test?
No though we will require a report from her primary school or previous secondary school. Applicants whose native language is not Irish should be reasonably fluent in written and spoken Irish for all year entry level above first year. We do accept girls with little Irish coming to first year but we advise parents to make every possible effort to work on the fluency of Irish prior to entry.
Are there regular Open Mornings or should parents make individual appointments to visit the school?
There are annual Open Days at Coláiste Íde. The Open Days include guided tours with students, where you can ask students questions about life at Coláiste Íde, tours around the grounds and if required an interview with the manager and Principal. This gives an invaluable introduction to life at Coláiste Íde and enables parents to speak with students and teaching staff. During term time parents are also very welcome to make an appointment with the school for an individual tour of the school and to meet the Principal.
Do you accept students at times other than September?
Not usually.
What is the application process?
If you wish to apply for a place after receiving a copy of our prospectus and visiting the school the Application Form needs to be completed and returned. The Registrar will contact the applicant to advise on the admissions process and regarding deposits required to secure your place.
When are the application deadlines?
As places are given on a first come first served basis we can only advise that you apply well in advance.
