Music & Drama / Ceol & Drámaíocht

Coláiste Íde has a long tradition in music and choral performances both classical and traditional. Annual events in the musical calendar include the Cork Choral Festival and the Department of Education & Science Choral Exams. Students are given an opportunity to develop their musical talents in a range of instruments. The school has six music rooms in which students practice on a daily basis. Pupils are prepared for Junior and Leaving Certificate music examinations.
Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann offer weekly classes in traditional music and students who wish can attend Siamsa Tíre classes in Tralee. Voice training is also available.

Students are also prepared for examinations in Speech & Drama and Music under the Royal Irish Academy of Music.

Drama is an important element in the educational programme. All classes prepare dramatic productions for school concerts throughout the year and study speech and drama as part of the English syllabus.
